normally by smell, iv seen a fair few old cars(xy,hq,hj's) using it, you may get away with it for a while. if they catch you then you will have a bad time.
Not to mention mixing fuels can cause problems as you will nevere get the right mix.
With e85 you need to have your fuel tank coated(if your going to use it all the time as it is corrosive) you will also need to up grade your fuel lines, injectors and fuel pumps as well as a retune

tolulene mixes well with our fuel, (10-15%) wouldnt use methanol mix, but methanol mixes well water for water injection, it certainly cools the inlet down big time...can pump some more timing in for more grunt and power, BUT if you run out of water mix or it stops working, then so does your motor....

beat me to it, toulene/rocket fuel works great.. same as what the petrol stations use to make 92ron into 95ron. no real power gains but helps to prevent detonation.. wouldnt use it as an everyday practice but good for a bit of safety margin if planning a hard run. only chance of getting done is a gas test as your car will blow over for benzene emissions

You can buy Methanol legally over the counter at RPW, without a cams licence or any other form of ID. in 20 ltr (I have never purchased any more than that) drums its around $55 but you will also need to buy some castor oil to mix with the Methanol, before you mix it with the 98 (or other fuel of your choice)
You will not see any benefits of a 10 or 20% mix without a retune, so its basically pointless.

Ethanol is the same deal, expect to pay around $570 for a 200ltr drum & all this talk about having to drain tanks & replace fuel lines..... I have not had any issues yet, nor have many people running the fuel I know that have been using it for 2 to 3 years now.

I don't know about enthanol, but with methanol, we had to rinse the carbs out on our bikes after every race or the bowls would get eaten away.

Lots of peeps use it in the UK 10 or 20% seems to be the preferred ratio. Keep methanol in 5l or 10l Jerry cans, then go servo put methanol in tank fill up with fuel, doesn't seem that difficult, I'd have the ecu set up to run on methanol mix.

Why you would want to be in contact with it unless you need to be is beyond me

Its highly corossive, causes cancer, and if you keep breathing it in without protection it will do a number on your lungs.

I think it may be a good idea to gain an extra few HP & gain a bit of safety from detonation for a track day. But using it all the time would surely start to become a pain in da ass.

If you wanna try it though, go for it, but I personally think you will just go back to pump 98, due to it being such a hassle for a road car.

Be sure to change the oil regularly....~1000km intervals. It gets diluted on Methanol / E85.
