Default Ripped CV Joint Boot,ARGGHHH

I ive only owned my WRX for a week, I was just doing an oil change and I see grease all over where the steering shaft is and the area around it??.

I then see the CV Joint Boot is torn open,I don't know how long its been like that?. How hard is it to try change that out for a new one?,I suspect too hard for me to do correctly.

Can the car still be driven like this until I can get it into a mechanics next week?

Yes car can be driven untill you fix it, of its not making noise all you will need to replace the boot and re pack it with grease, of the cv is fucked then you will need a new one(outer control can supply a new one). Easy to remove if you have a split pin hiding the shaft in at te box you won't loose any gear oil. Easy to do of nothing is seized

Piss easy job to do.
Crack the axle nut (big socket and breaker bar)
Jack the car.
Remove wheel.
Disconnect sway bar.
Disconnect tie-rod form the hub (not always required, but give you more room to work)
Disconnect hub from lower control arm.
Knock the retaining pin out of the inner CV shaft where it meets the gearbox.
Should now be able to manouver the hub outwards enough to slip the cv joint out of the hub and then remove it from the gearbox.

Now, depending on the condition of the CV, replace the boot and repack with grease or swap in a new CV and keep that one as an emergency spare.

This is just off the top of my head so I'm sure someone here will come along shortly and slam me with my mistakes.

EDIT:
This guy does a far better job than me.

I ended up taking it to Outer Control in Myaree, Good bloke there and sorted it out for $120.00. I wanted the internals of it properly checked out too so I took it there, all sorted ,all good......

Outer Control
