I do.

Lots of money and you still have a gearbox made of glass and wet straw, shit brakes and crap resale.

Strip bugeye of all the good bits, replace with standard, sell car, buy bugeye STi, profit?

What he ^^ Personally I own a somewhat modded bug Wrx with a lot of sti parts and running gear, if you don't have th money to burn I would not try it.

My mods have gotten my GT Spec B to a level beyond a tuned by Sti of its era and will I ever see a return from it ... no. I was lucky in the sense that I didn't have to buy a six speed but it still doesn't have DCCD. The Brembo conversion was close to $4k odd. In the end some of the cosmetic mods have been the most expensive such as Enkei rims and Sti front lip.

The journey has been great but in the end there are many lost dollars in this car. However, as we all know, modding cars isn't an investment.

The engine will mount up exactly the same but you will need to use the flywheel and clutch off the non STi engine (unless you also use the STi transmission)

The wiring in the WRX will not support the active valve control that the STi engine has, the ECU will not operate it either. Changing the entire wiring loom and ECU is one solution. Adding the extra control wiring is an option but is definitely not a DIY.

The dollars aren't lost, they just benefit the next owner.

I had a pretty extensively modded 01 wrx before my current car. Spent an embarrassing amount of money on it cause sti's were not in Australia at the time would have got one if they were.

It did outperform sti's though but still, didn't have the refinement or dynamics/feel of an sti. My friend had a stock 02 sti and while it was a lot slower in a straightline, it felt more planted.

Get an sti if you really want to go fast or keep the wrx "mildly" modified and be happy.

I began to turn a 01 WRX into an STi too. Got through the whole lot except

- 207
- 6 Speed / Driveline

Figure I would do this when i popped either of them, in whatever order. ~2 years later neither have died. Service her and look after her too much.

Was an expensive journey, but no regrets as I have hung onto the car for a while and been able to enjoy it all, as oppose to doing it all and then selling it.

Through doing it, been able to keep the car in really good condition too.

(Waits for gearbox to go boom so i can get a six speed) .. I have too much mechanical sympathy.
