Default Tyre Pressure question?

Just a quick, albeit, silly question guys...

Havent had to pump my tyres for over a year, but the time has finally come. I am not sure of the recommended pressure ratings for teh front and rears.

Anyone have any idea, or perhaps any personal preferences?

Cheers

depends on what tyres you are running. consult your local tyre centre.

first pump in over a year? thats not good. if you running normal air in your tyres you should loose pressure reasonably quickly. you should be pumping up every fortnight, well at least checking pressure.

if you run nitrogen inflation it is reccomended that you check pressure every 3 months.

pump to around 35psi street use. More for 'spirited' track driving. Check em every month incase you pick up a nail or get a slow leak

Yeah 32 - 36 is normally good for everyday driving. If you tend to drive with a little more aggression than most people then 38 - 40 but in time that can ware out the middle of the tire. Definatley should check them at least once a month though, preferably every fourghtnight.

Probably good to stick to the sticker under the drivers door, i read in an MRT or Whiteline article something about this and recall them saying something like 33 front 27 rear.

BTW: checking tyre pressures yearly, READ:

i run 45psi at all 4's. stops the sidewalls flexing and keeps the tire handling fairly consistent.

LOL, bad advice if i ever heard it! (have you checked the sidewall to see if your tyres can actually handle that BTW? some brands cant handle as much)

BTW, i manage a tyre place.

yes, as you said, it depends on the brand.

conti-sport contact 2's handle it.

to be honest, i'd be more worried about a dodgey tire shop not torque wrenching my wheels to the car, rather then tire pressure

Cars dont leave my workshop without me checking that the nuts have been torqued using a torque wrench. We have to tick off and signature on each car's work authority.

Some places just rattle them up and send people out, which is dangerous! try that on a commodore rear end and see how many wheel nuts come loose when its put on the ground!

When your tyres are warm you know you'll be running about 47psi actually, thats light truck territory!

OT: What's the correct torquing for wheel nuts? I don't put mine on as tight as possible, but pretty damn tight..
