Default Please Helllllllp :) AVCS - NON AVCS CAMS - HEADS COMPATIBILITY??

Hey Guys..

Hit our first snag whilst trying to do the install on the EJ22t

been reading forum after forum trying to get information on if I can overcome the current situation...

As the ej22t currently has EJ205 heads from an MY99, I have been informed they are possibly not compatible with the MY05 as it has AVCS

Does the MY05 (2004) WRX actually even have avcs? I hear, yes, no and single...?

Wondering if anyone can confirm this?

If it is true, is there any way around this?

Possibly utilising my stock ej205 heads installing the cams disabling avcs?

cams are non avcs cosworths

bear in mind the vehicle also has an aftermarket ECU (VIPEC pnp)

any ideas would be greatly appreciated and hoping with the two engines I currently have I can drive away in one?

thankyou

steve

yes it has but since you are running a vipec you should be able to get it to work may require some rewiring. I am not sure if anyone has done it though. I am doing the opposite to you going to run avcs from none avcs by changing the wiring and let the Link control all.

Steve, with an aftermarket ECU, you can bypass the AVCS wiring requirement no problems.

the issue may more be with the ECU not being able to capture or define the CRIP/REF+SYNC off the different CAM/CRANK tooth profiles from a MY99/00 vs MY01+
