Default Engine Help Crank Pulley/Harmonic Balancer

Hey Guys,

Need a bit of help, i have noticed quite a bit of vibration along with squealing coming from my crank pulley. I brought it to the mechanic who said its the harmonic balancer.

This might be a stupid question, but is the crank pulley the harmonic balancer?? Been doing quite a bit off research online, but there isnt any grounded info on which is which for a EJ20 wrx 2002. Some even say that there is no harmonic balancer??

Need help guys.. thanks in advance

My car is currently grounded, till I know which part to replace...

It's the front crank pulley.
The factory one has an inner & outer separated by a rubber ring. The rubber perishes and allows the outer to slip & squeal.

Best solution - Purchase an under drive pulley set off Ebay. They have a solid crank pulley and slightly increase throttle response.

Gday Rossco,

Could I pls ask, what are the benefits of an underdrive pulley set?
Is it for race cars, or will it have positive effect on daily drivers too?

Matt.
