just down to the cat,
the roll of stuff is 50 bucks a roll, i needed one roll.
and chee can you explain how a flexible heat insulating material is prone to cracking?

waxdass 22-10-2006 06:58 PM

for $50 roll.. must be some pretty crap stuff..

There is only 1 heat wrap you should use - and that is the thermotech stuff

I thought it is the pipe which the wrap is covering may crack. not the wrap its self, have heard mixed story's though.

chee 22-10-2006 07:07 PM

the actual piping or welds is prone to cracking.

how many feet do you need for a dump pipe? 25 or 50ft?

Mister Two 22-10-2006 08:38 PM

25 ft equals around 7M. I think that would be more than enough for just a dump pipe.

25 ft should be enough for a set of 4cyl header, but you would need the 50ft one for maybe 5cyl and v8s...

tuna 23-10-2006 07:28 AM

if your serious about header wrapping, you should be starting at the headers and working back, all up i used about 4x 50mm thermotec rolls for my entire exhaust system, i also found it much easier (and quicker) to remove the entire exhaust (inc headers) to wrap them tight and neat enough. i also used hose clamps on medium tension to hold the start and finish portions of the wrapping. (makes for easy removal later on).

you guys aren't thinking of wrapping the factory cast manifold are you?

I don't think it would be necessary, aftermarket headers, ceramic coat, wrap, silicone coat, done.

benifits of wrapping post turbo? Other than heat protection....
