Offset Question (search didn't help!)
Hi all,
I've been offered a cheap set of Rota rims that apparently came off a 2009 WRX. They're 18x8.5 and from what I have been told, offset is only +30. Currently fitted with 225/40/R18 tyres. I've searched a lot of forums and read through the whole offset sticky but can't seem to find anything that matched up with my car - 2012 WRX hatch. Does anyone know if these will fit without any further modification - I don't really want to roll guards or have stupid neg camber to fit them. Car isn't tracked, used as a daily driver with some hard driving through twisty roads every few weekends. Rare for car to be loaded up but would prefer if it didn't scrub at all. Thanks in advance for any help! Grrilla |

I would hazard a guess and say that +30 on a 18x8.5 is going to still out way too much.
Just realised that you have a 2012 WRX which will be the wide body model, I know that you can fit +35 in there with a bit of rubbing/guard rolling, +30 might be pushing it! I did manage to find this for you, it appears that only the front wheel has been test fitted. BBS CH Wheel 18x8.5 +30 fitment

Thanks so much Soksta - I had found a 2011 with +30 in one of the threads but same thing, pics wouldn't come up and no further info. Have found a few 08/09/10s with similar offsets but was wondering if anyone knew if the widebody fenders on my 2012 model would make it easier to fit.
Appreciate you taking the time to post the links in any case! Car has stock suspension too, forgot to mention that earlier. |

Actually I just saw your edited post and had a look at the link. That really does look like +30 will be pushing it!

I have 17x9 +45 on my car with firmer than oem suspension and I've managed to rub the rears (not rolled) on a couple of occasions (5 people in the car with a boot full of stuff). I would say that knowing how much movement you have in the oem suspension and the offset of those rims, that you may rub a fair bit. Best bet would be to find something that sticks just inside the guards and won't make contact with them. I would hazard a guess that 18x8.5 +44 would do this on the wide body models. I'm sure that there are a couple of people on this forum that have 18x8.5 +44 on the wide body models, hopefully they can chime in with their experiences!

If wrx body is same as sti, which i believe it is, the rim will stick out the fender by 3-4mm. since u r running 225 tyre, it will be a stretched fitting, on stock spring rate, it might rub a little on high load.

225 tyres are too narrow for an 8.5 wide rim...

Yeah I haven't seen them other than pics but the specs from Rota said they're only available in +30 offset in that size. The guy selling them said they have 'miles' of clearance on a 2009 but I have a hard time believing that. The 225s don't really looked stretched in the pics but I haven't seen them in person yet.
My tyre guy who I trust completely said the most he would go would be about +45, 40 may fit but no guarantee and 30 would require fairly significant rolling and a fair bit of neg camber. He said it will be generally fine for cruising around but knowing my driving style he said I'll run into trouble on the first corner. The whole thing sounds like it's a bad idea so I think I might pass, can see it turning into an expensive, tyre-chewing exercise! Really appreciate everyone's input here - was expecting to get brutalised for asking stupid questions haha.. Grrilla |

I've got 20mm spacers on my +55 BBS alloys on a 2011 sedan. They're flush with the arches, rears needed rolling. So you'd be going an extra 5mm out with +30. Would need a bit of work.
