Repair, sell or part out?
Hey everyone, so a little while ago a Camry failed to give way and hit the front right of my WRX. Insurance has finally come through and it has been written off. Called up the DoT and to my surprise, they said the car is still registered as it is older than 15 years.
Currently I have a sign on the car advertising it for 1.5k as the engine wasn't working and I didn't want to mess around with it. But today I checked out what was really wrong with it and it looks like one of the pulleys is broken and the (drive?/cam?) belt is loose. Looks like an easy fix? Only problem is the chassis has been pushed up against it and will need to be pulled back out. Wondering what you guys think... Would it be worth fixing it up then selling, sell as is or parting it all out? Last edited by Tomi; 06-01-2015 at 04:44 PM. |

Depends how much mucking around you want to do.
Do you have the tools and time to part it out? Looking at the damage, I wouldn't think it would be worth fixing just to sell it. If it were me, I would part it out. But again, my time and resources may differ to yours. |

Busted timing gear/belt means motor is more than likely fagged.
Id wreck it.

Looking at the pic, the engine has either moved in the engine bay, closer to the rails, or the rails have been bent towards the engine. Or your engine mounts may have broken. Or the subframe may have moved.
Could even be a combination of the above. The pulley being broken is merely a symptom, rather than a cause of the problem. |

Agreed, Wreck it and salvage what you can and want to keep, scrap the rest
Even if you can get the chassis/subframe to be straight again it'll never handle the same. |

I have some mechanical knowledge and basic tools. Removing the engine and gearbox will be tough though.

Unless you have access to an engine crane, I would sell as is

Unlucky mate, IMO sell off what you can as it looks like a nightmare waiting to happen in repairs.
