I know that feel, exhaust work in general is a pain in the ass. luckily though only 1 of my head studs was partly fucked.. I had to replace nearly all the nuts though because of my cheap sockets and impatience.

I went and brought all new nuts for every stud and bolt I took off. Turbo, exhaust and head nuts. Just easier and $10 in hardware.

Well worst fears confirmed. They've tried to hold the head bolt in place using some sort of goo

Anyone with any ideas how I can fix this without taking the engine out?

you could possibly sand blast it, mig weld it and retap the hole.

however, engine out to fit the problem properly.

Only way to get the head out is engine out hey? If I could change the head without taking the engine out id be stoked but I don't have the gear to take it out and would need to pay. Know how much that'll cost me

yeah i'm stumped, seems headers nuts have been overtightned or the stud was wound in too far and cracked it.

best bet get on the phone and start calling for info / quotes / replacement
