Default Help

Hi Guys,

Really need some help here, for the last few days I have been getting a public mens toilet piss smell coming from my car, I first thought some drunk asshole pissed on my car or a cat so I washed it inside and out including shampoo carpets and seats. The Car is a 2011 WRX and the Piss smell is still there I unloaded air fresheners and sprays in the car and the smell is there, only when I put my nose to the air vents I could smell its coming from the A/C vents. Has anyone ever had this and how the hell do I get rid of it and why would there be a piss smell from the vents/blower

There are probably two possibilities here - firstly, your air-con system may require cleaning/disinfecting, I notice a similar although much fainter odour if my air-con hasn't been on for a while. You can get disinfectant sprays for this purpose - my clients who run trucks use Wurth brand for theirs, although whatever you find at Supercheap Auto will probably do the trick. If you have cabin filters, pull them out and smell them - may need to change these too.

The second alternative is that someone has actually p!ssed in your air vents, in which case you will probably need to dismantle and wash/disinfect the piping etc. I would think this is pretty unlikely so I would try the disinfectant first.

You may need to replace pollen filters if fitted. This happened in our new Honda Accord a while back. Dealership advised us to always run the fan on a low setting even if the aircon wasn't needed for temp control, it reduces the build up of condensation/mould in the filters and pipework.

Good luck.

Pollen filter - grab one from Repco, very easy to replace yourself, it sits behind the glovebox.

Wurth make an air conditioner cleaner spray which works wonders. Start car, get AC cranking and set the can off and leave for half hour or something.

I have the Fortron A/C disinfect kits here @ Performance West in Ascot - Swing past if you're in the area.

It's only $25

Ask for Ross in service
