Arrow PPG Gearboxes

Hey guys

Been looking at PPG gearbox how much for straight cut 1-4 installed cost ?

Wondering if anyone is running them? This a mod I may be doing way down the road in a couple years or so but want some education on them if anyone could help out.

Allot overseas wrx owners are raving about how good they are so this grabbed my interest at first

Dat Whine....

Factory 6 speed is stronger, nicer to drive, option of DCCD, last much longer and probably cheaper these days.

They where the THING back before the sti 6 speed.

Your stock 5 speed should be good for a while yet. When or if that is no longer enough, your best option is an STi 6 speed swap as per above. The pricing would be similar between that and building a 5 speed from what I have heard.

What about mass difference between a 6 speed and a five speed with straight 1-2, or 1-4? It's something I've been considering too, and still am favouring a 5, so someone talk me out of it.

And what's the application?

My tarmac GC8 has a 5-speed 4.44 Albins gear set 1-5. Previous owner did this over a 6-speed for weight benefits and also so as to not add more unnecessary gear changes (eg if you need to change down a gear into a corner and up a gear out of a corner, that's time). It's a close-ratio box so it keeps nicely in its powerband; tradeoff is not being able to go over about 220-230km/hr, but in targa (WA targa anyway) that doesn't matter, and at the racetracks in Perth you'll barely hit that speed with less than 330HPATW.

If you're building your car to have more power, yeah it may change the way you go about everything.

Personally my box is close enough that I think a 6-speed would shit me!

Well in terms of performance will hopefully 300+ awhp Ill see plans are verticooler, Headers and Turbo back exhaust.

There is nothing wrong with my current box but didn't know how reliable it is especially when it comes to launches, and power-shifting or flat footing. Its all speculation for the future, I just like having a plan and goal and knowing every necessity. (Thats just me)

Want to put some serious time in track days and develop some racing skills but it is also my daily for the moment.

If you want to do serious track time, you will hopefully learn that FFS and "power-shifting" are all terrible for the car and may only give you a fraction of a second advantage.

Your 5 speed with a little tenderness and respect will last a very long time! Its not a nissan, dont treat it like one. AWD doesn't need or care for hard shifting.

My 5spd has been holding up since September last year with 325hp as you'll see in my sig. In that time I've had about 3 or 4 drag strip visits with high rpm launches and a Barbagallo track day. In a couple of weeks I'll be heading up to Racewars for more straight line racing.

Treat the box with some basic respect and there's no reason it can't handle that power. Slip the clutch on launch as opposed to shock loading the driveline, and shift smoothly and swiftly. No need to yank the stick and shock the system with clutch drops. That said, I've stuffed up the launch a couple of times and bashed the box and it is still holding up.

By all means russ I know about that, I shall treat her right . What instrested me was according to PPG you can do some serious thrashing (powershifting and clutchless shifting) with those straight cut gears and dog box's they could be referring to their rwd cars dont quote me on that
