how do people fit 3" intakes?
I've just spent a few hours bent over the engine bay, swearing and carrying on.
How do people fit 3" silicone intake pipes in under their manifold? Is there something different from a GC to GD? Ive even tried with a GD power steer pump and even that won't fit. All I can manage to do it get power steer oil everywhere.

I did mine in like 30 mins, all I did was use a bit of elbow grease and basically bent the silicon hose ports under the manifold. They seemed to go in relatively easy. The hardest part of the install was trying to line it up on the turbo.
From your pictures mate it looks pretty much in place where it's meant to be.. using the Perth-WRX mobile app |

Problem is, there is no power steer pump in those photos...

I think 3"s would be harder to fit under the manifold:
Not sure if required or not, but phenolic spacers, or aftermarket TGV's to bring the manifold up a bit would almost certainly help.

Is it possible you may have brought a GD 3 inch inlet? I know the GC inlet is constructed a little different compared to the GD

Well I've got a GD manifold on it also...
Just no way in hell to get it past the steering pump.

The issue is the power steer resivoir on the GC. Gd has a remote tank

In terms of size standard GC/GD inlets are the same. 3" inlets are a LOT harder and there is no way you're getting it in without lifting the manifold and either going for aftermarket TGV deletes or phenolic spacers for the extra room, as mentioned above.
I've just done it on my '07. I'm running an AVO 3" inlet with Cosworth composite TGV deletes. If you are running a TMIC and want to retain the hardlines running under the manifold (breather lines, etc that run along the top of the coolant crossover tube) you'll also need to modify those. Basically grinding off reinforcement brackets and bending the hardlines out of the way of the inlet. There were a few other issues as well but they're all very minor; you should be able to suss them as you go. Edit: Just re-read and saw what your issue actually is. If the GD powersteering pump is smaller it's definitely the go. I know mine was really tight, but with a little persuasion I was able to get it on. Last edited by Mike; 01-06-2015 at 09:32 PM. |

Yeah I've tried with a GD pump.
Maybe just not hard enough? I've got the intake in position under the manifold, Just can't get either pump back in.
