Bit of Detail here:

Kaaz vs Torsen Differentials | Magnus Motorsports

A plated LSD is stronger and more aggressive I would say. More predictable as well by its entire design. It would be an upgrade to what you have.

Not sure what the torsens are like in the wet, but once you break traction with a plated you want to ensure you're ready to be sideways and hold on. In the dry they are just as good.

Even going around a corner in the wet, a bit of boost and it's opposite lock time.
Bram, nick73 and Dan [GTI] like this.

An STi 2 way would easy, as you'd not even know, unless driving in anger.

Something more clunky, less progressive, like a Cusco MZ, or to a lesser extent, an RS maybe not. Not sure about the KaaZ and Qauife.

You'd want it to be as subtle as possible. Locked/Welded diffs have killed in the past so you'd assume they'd be all over it.

I thought I posted a comment yesterday but obviously I was drunk. So:

Tyres: not just better rubber but wider rubber- more contact patch.
Wheels: lighter wheels. Less unsprung weight.
Diffs: as said, will pull you round and out of corners (i.e. put the power down) - great upgrade for track work.

Technically speaking. The terms '1 way', '1.5 way' and '2 way' can only be used to describe a clutch/plated LSD.

A plated mechanical LSD is a pretty aggressive diff. I have a Cusco RS 1.5w set to max lock and max preload, and its tight. Its a massive step up from a VLSD. It feels real good round corners, but makes the car quite tail happy. But its fairly 'predictable', when it wants to step out. (Having a spec C quickrack really helps here, when it wants to go, you can get a bit of correction in real easily). Even though its supposed to be a 1.5w, you can still really feel it under decel too. Probs because i have it set up at max inside.

I actually have an 06 sti plated r180 in the shed, and my current diff started life as an 07 torsen. But i never even tried either of the stock STi LSDs. I just went straight to the Cusco when i swapped the drivetrain. So i cant compare directly.
