I have never looked closely at failure points for 207's but interesting to see that the big end is the first to go. Is this due to inadequate oiling and high rpms?

11mm oil pump or an STI AVCS pump, Killer B pickup and windage tray . Upgrade intercooler to GD STI, VF34 p18 ,1200cc injectors and E85 .On a V5 STI 207 unopened is good for 300hp ATW . The 2 door in my build thread that was done for a mate was tuned by Ant Scalli and runs Haltech . With those mods made low 300 hp ATW with good AFR and EGT which the haltech runs individual cylinder EGT probes .

To go anything over this you need to look at Head studs at a minimum , bigger turbo and intercooler as intake temps start to get unmanageable. If I were going to go further id also phase drill the crank and look at forged pistons and rods . Being an open deck to keep reliability I think high 300 to low 400hp max. So going the full deal dont waste your time and put the motor together in at least semi closed deck cases.

ALL GC8 rods were shite.

Block is good for 500whp but the internals aren't.

Later blocks had better rods but for anything over 350whp you really should consider forged internals. They can cope with more but its a game of roulette.

For example My JDM MY05 had an unopened engine and run 504bhp (flywheel) so it can be done but if you want to be absolutely sure of it not shitting itself above 350whp then it needs to be forged in my humble opinion.

Thanks guys. Some good advice there. Im going to have to settle for a max of 280hp at wheels for now i think.
I will start keeping an eye out for built 207s for sale. Surly there must be some out there

Completely agree with this. Excellent value for money considering its a long motor including twin scroll turbo and headers.

Swap of turbo and injectors and 500hp is easily achieved. BARGAIN!!

try a early rs liberty closed deck block, with a rear thrust crank
131mm rods with wiseco piston to suite, with aged head studs with a heat treated crank
the rest are junk to make reliable hp
