Evening All

Slowly getting there with the car.

I was hoping that someone with a GC8 could let me know where the main ground (thick wire runs off battery wires) should be located on the car?? Ive had a read through a fair few posts but i was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

Much appreciated...

The thick ground wire should be bolted to a bracket, and uses a bolt that bolts the gearbox and motor together, it should be located just above the starter motor from memory.

Yep. Bolt it down to the top bolt of the starter motor.

I'm just trying to rule out a few things before going insane... Finally got the car idling nice but it goes to shite if any electrics are turned on ie fans/lights... Drove it for about an hour yesterday before it started to misbehave/backfire/hesitate. So assumed it had not been charging the battery on the run.. borrowed an alternator to give that a whirl and different battery and get the same result. Just moved the earth and get the same result.. going loopy....

Is the car stock?

Has it got an aftermarket ecu in it that may need retuning?

I have added an earth strap/lead/wire on my GC8, it goes from a bolt in the body near the top of a strut tower, to a bolt on the intake manifold. I sanded away just a touch of paint from the body before attaching the earth strap.

Yes it's a good idea to add a couple of earth straps as above, GC's had notoriously bad earthing, go to Supercheap and buy a couple of nice thick ones and go from the strut tower from the block somewhere and maybe add another to the battery and the body.
