Default brake options, carbon or steel

im looking at upgrading my brakes and have narrowed it down to the following

im thinking 8 piston caliper, water cooled in 378mm. this includes the use of a header, tank, pump and hoses running through a heat exchanger (radiator). the only drawback is this system is that its heavy. I still prefer it because at the same time it allows a freestyle experimentation in fabrication design and carbon is still an unknown proposition, which is my second option using 6 piston allows the use of carbon rotors up to 380mm.

now im wondering does anyone have any serious data to back up efficiency differences between water cooled steel and carbon/carbon from around the interwebs they could pass on or other information it would be appreciated.

normally i would spend hours/days/weeks looking it up myself i just don't have the time anymore so wondering if anyone has come across anything already.

Carbon Brakes: Yum Yum Quality.

The only thing I can comment on them is that they are amazing when stopping a 42 000kg Aircraft in 7-800 m of runway, especially when they get some heat in them. We really have to be carefull (light toes only) as its very easy to set the Anti-Skid off.

I will try and did up Some info.

Combining low weight with exceptional strength and hardness – Carbon-Ceramic is a ceramic composite material, composed of carbon fiber within a silicon carbide matrix, so-called carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide (C/SiC).

Carbon-Ceramic brake discs offer substantial improvements over the dynamics of sports and luxury cars in several fundamental areas. This new composite technology sets a new benchmark in decisive user benefit aspects, such as safety and durability.

Carbon-Ceramic brake performance is revolutionary. The ceramic brake disc achieves not only very high, but also consistent frictional coefficients, maintaining them independent from temperature and weather conditions.

Carbon-Ceramic brake discs offer a tremendous weight advantage (about 65%) over traditional grey-cast iron components. This reduces the weight of the suspension and means a reduction in unsprung masses with a further improvement of shock absorber response and behavior.

Carbon-Ceramic brake discs are designed to last the entire lifetime of a car. Thanks to the non-iron based surface, corrosion is totally avoided, increasing the life span of the brake disc.

PORSCHE:

Audi:

Carbon Ceramic Advantages:
Lightweight discs- reducing unsprung mass
Consistent frictional coefficients regardless of Temperature
Far less dust geneated then steel discs
At least 4 times the life expectancy compared to steel discs

heaps heaps more.
Go the Carbon, you know you want to spend the $$$

there was an article some time ago in HPI about carbon rotors. Apparently, with the right materials in rotor and pad, you can get around the majority of "cold braking" issues; ie, not stopping.

a good side benefit of the carbon rotors is the significently less rotating mass. Which has real benifits regarding handling and acceleration, not just stopping.

will scout through my collection to see if I can find the issue, your welcome to come and have a look if I come up with anything.
