I am pretty sure at one stage the WRC guys were running water cooled brake setups. Surely someone has a contact at prodrive somewhere?

Why dont u go to the final frontier and use the braking system that one of the american land speed record jet cars is using.... apart from the chute it uses 2 discs ...one is fixed and the other spins along witht he wheel..... the surfaces of each disc are embedded with various expensive metals so that when they come close to each other it creates a huge magnetic field which causes the disc thats spinning to slow massively..... I saw it on foxtel.... they had a laithe spinning one disc at 800rpm..... Laithe engine power was at 25% of maximum.... they then pushed the other disc towards the spinning disc and as it got closer the laithe had to increase to 100% power to keep up 800rpm and then the rpm started slowing to 600-500-400 etc as the discs moved closer and closer.... ..
Biggest benefit is that this could slow you from 300+ to about 50kph with no brake fade and no wear on anythign except the tyres. http://www.landspeed.com/magneticasb.asp Helping to stop the North American Eagle™ will be a unique braking system under development by Lev X® of Port Angeles, Washington. The anti-skid, no contact brakes could someday revolutionize the aircraft, rail and automotive industry. Lev X ®, and their parent company Magna-Force ® are leading the world with the commercial applications of rare earth Neodymium Iron Boron Magnets (NdFeB) in the transportation industry.

Wonder how long it'll be before this is seen on everyday cars... 10, maybe 5 years? |

so it's just magnets, not electro-magnets?
Would the other disc become magnetic over time? wonder if it's heavy? Good idea though....

I think the discs are quite heavy because they are solid metal.....and embedded with other metals.
