Pinging 05 STI - thoughts?
hi all, have been getting pinging under load from around 4k through to 5.5k, most noticeable in 2nd and 3rd WOT. Hoping someone can shed some light on next steps and/or feedback on steps so far. Car is stock with exhaust, 160ks on the clock. Never thrown a CEL, car has always started, idled and ran well throughout the issue. MAYBE it feels a little down on power and using a bit more fuel atm.
Steps so far: - Fresh fuel, always BP98 - Cleaned maf + ecu reset - replaced air filter - upper engine cleaner + fuel additive + oil change (5w30) - New plugs NGK PFLR7G (did have denso iridiums) - New OEM coils I am thinking next port of call is new knock sensor and a new MAF? Am starting to get a bit annoyed with changing parts over for no improvement! More background FYI Have had the car a bit under a year and got the major service done when I first picked it up (new rad, hoses, timing belt, water pump etc etc). I am fairly sure the pinging only started happening after that major service but it could be more that im just used to the car and all its other noises. I will add that prior to the pinging getting worse I also noticed the boost was getting cut and defaulting to mech boost of 10 PSI. I changed the boost solenoid and for the most part this has not happened again. Last edited by CB3; 15-01-2022 at 10:31 PM. |
