Default oil usage

what sort of oil usage would u expect from 2002 wrx over 5000kms
i basically did 5000kms since may 2006 to today jan

reason i ask is that i checked it this morning and saw it was on low mark.

i also back in may 06 checked it and it was low mark as well previous owner.

so is it normal to use that much with in that amount of time and kms.

i went to day and got new oil filter and washer and did oil change.

thats bad...

I have a 15 year old Legacy that only needs a 500ml top up over 5000km.

I think your engine's piston rings weren't bedded in properly when it was new.

Get a compression and leakdown test.

What thickness of oil was it running? Was it filled right up to full when the oil was put in?
Take the oil filler cap off whyle it is running and see if it puffs out much oil/blowby gasses. Some cars are real bad, yet others have virtually none. as said by Mister Two, it proberly wasnt bedded in properly when new, though unless it is smokey is it causing a problem?

ok here is bit of an update which might change a few thing..

I checked it again since putting oil in hasnt moved started one for 1 min to move oil around then it sat for say couple hours.. check level just above low. so im thinking maybe im on some uneven ground. but i mean its pretty dead level i thought.

i put all the old drained oil back into an oil container and it filled it to 3.7 litres i think plus i prob split a bit so prob filled around the 3.8 3.9 litre mark .

so i guess iv really only lost about 1.3 litres over 5000kms is that any better than originally thought ?

and why isnt my reading showing properlly.

They only take 4.5l of oil? i think, so it is proberly not going to bad. All engines do use oil, though lots of short trips can make it look like it doesnt use any because the oil doesnt get hot enough to cause the mositure to evaporate.
Using small amounts of oil (average .5l ) of oil between services seems to be the norm with most cars that we see in at work. All of my cars have used some oil, but i service them every 4000k so i dont ever top them up, they are just half full when i go to change the oil.
I think that your oil use sound average for most cars anyway.

ok well a friend flagged me down on the way home today, as i went down my street. he said to me the other day when i was gearing down for the corner he noticed blue smoke. and sugested maybe turbo seal, which could explain why i got slight oil usage,
which would explain it.. also i dont have any blow by either.

come on excuss for vf34 though turbo as it is can still last for a long time

blue smoke means your burning oil, but since you don't have more than the usual blow by.

It sounds like your turbo oil seals may be leaking. Take your exhaust dump pipe off and see if there is any major oil residue on the inside of the exhaust housing and turbine blades. If so, then its time for a turbo upgrade.
