With the motec sdc do you need to have the OEM diff controller and loom to make it work??

to make full functionality yes.

the SDC takes input from the factory G & abs sensors.

Tino, it will work seperatly, but you still need to wire the SDC up, i.e. power, wiring to the diff, wheel speed sensors (if you use them, you can wire it into the ecu for ground speed detection otherwise), thumb wheel, handbrake, abs etc. You will also need to buy the connectors to plug it in (or steal them off a DCCD loom). The steering angle sensor you don't need as it isn't used by the SDC anyway, likewise the G and yaw sensors.

You are probably better off buying either a neetronics/DCCDpro/RocketRally unit, they are cheaper and easier to install, although these use different methods of calculating the required diff lock to the SDC (i.e. G sensor in DCCD pro, % wheel slip in SDC)

Yeh im prolly looking at the neetronics unit.. most people are using these units these days it seems.

But i thought that the sdc would be able to comunincate with the motec so as to get better information and set up an automatic mode??

Not really. The SDC measures % wheel slip then determines if the car is accellerating or braking and then gets a % lock value from it's maps. The % of allowable slip is changed based on the position of the thumb wheel and TP. As far as I can see from the documentation, it does not use anything from the ECU (unless you want to swtch TP for MAP or ground speed for individual wheel speeds, though I'm not really sure why you would do this).

Going with the SDC will allow you to log all of the inputs and other data in the M800, I guess it depends if this data is important to you, though I would assume that it isn't (street car...). You need to ensure that you wire up the ABS unit though, as you do not want full lock under ABS activation, though the map should technically drive it to full unlocked anyway. The ABS should be hooked up to the handbrake input in other controllers also for the same reason.

Yeh logging isnt too important to me, just wouldnt mind some sort of auto mode like the OEM controller, but i dont have g sensors etc only wheel sensors.

i think the neetronics can do this so most probaly go that way unless there are better alternatives that provide that function?

Just chiming in on this again..

Looking at the dccdpro also, this seems to be similar to factory settings but has more imput control.

Does anyone know if the neetronics also has an inbuilt auto mode?? i know it has more functions such as launch control mode etc etc..

an "auto" mode still requires abs/g-sensor input.

if your going to that trouble, i'd be installing the SDC (v1) without a hesitation.
