Wouldn't they use the same detection technology though? - Vertically polarised..

It depends on the polarisation of the radar unit. I doubt those trailer mounted things have anything too special, so odd you would get such a varied difference (maybe when vertical it had less area to detect the signal with?).
It is better to test against the real world equipment than devices that don't give you a fine. Edit: On my testing, only the multanova is polarised. All other radar units aren't which means it shouldn't matter which way the unit is placed.

Pretty sure the trailers are using the K band to detect speed so it wont make any difference.
If you want to test it look at the police website for mulitnova locations and go find one. Easy. |

Yeah it was K-Band, didn't occur to me that only Ka was vertically polarised. Thanks for your help.

K band are circular polarised and pump out big power so they can get you further away (i.e cop car on a long stretch of hwy) so you can pick it up ages away anyway.
Mulitnovas however only pump out 0.5mw (i think) and have an effective photo taking range of about 40m so any help you can get by mounting it vertically is greatly needed. |

I've heard from at least one other guy that an automatic door was a lower signal when vertical. Personally I think that's a good thing!
