This is a once in a Century opportunity to be accumulating quality stocks. BHP, NAB, QBE, WOW, WPL etc.

Stay right away from med caps at the moment.....

so your view is buy buy buy, i have been sitting here for the last few days pondering on wether to buy some bhp, i really should hurry up and do something or i might miss a great opportunity, most are telling me to buy, but some are talking global recession, demand for resources will fall therefore bhp, rio etc will drop, and it could be a while before they head back up, i have a bad feeling they havent dropped to the lowest point, although they are still cheap and if you can afford it you can always buy now and most likely just ride out the remaining "down" time.

LOL, the world is far from a global recession at the moment.

BUY BUY BUY.

Accumulate... not buy buy buy. We haven't seen the worst yet. Wake me up when the All Ords starts with the number 3.......

You should buy shares with a 5-7 year time frame. Its time in the market, not necessarily timing of the market. Whethere you buy BHP at $30 today or $28 tommorow isn't going to make that much difference if you've got a long term view. Which is why I'm quite happy to sit back, buy a bit more and just wait.

Personally, I wouldn't be buying just yet, this week the XJO has smashed through a pretty major resistance point on its chart, and pretty much everything is in a down trend. Coupled with the extreme amount of uncertainty in the global market at the moment (500-800 point drops in the DOW anyone?), its certainly pretty risky.

Things may appear to be cheap compared to 6-12 months ago, but when they have been tanking solidly for the better part of 12 months, well, thats just sending off warning bells to me.

If you did buy now with a view for the long term, I would think you would need to be comfortable seeing a sizable loss in your portfolio before it saw a profit.

If only ASIC would let us short sell...
