Had a quick look at the XR6 today and I must say, I thought it looked terrible. Like a new magna from the side and a liberty from the back. Didnt do anything for me at all.

I expect depreciation and really dont worry about that sort of thing otherwise I'd never buy a car!! The other option is the 60th Anniversary SSV, only 600 being made, so you would think that would equate to higher resale.

standard its a nice car but after a while you need to consider its weak points. i had only one major warranty issue. steering rack was loose but was a quick and easy fix. most alarming my standard engine didn't even make it to its first real service interval. before letting go (oil pump gears)the bearings looked like they had done 10 times the actual kms suggesting oil starvation issues from factory or maybe that was just bad run in procedure by yours truly. the car is seriously undertyred, especially if your used to driving the grip of an awd car. the standard suspension is a bit boatish and needs alot of attention but all the plus side its got plenty of poke to get it serious trouble anytime.

other little pet hates, the standard subwoofer is a joke, throw that in the bin first chance you get.

modding terms, sky is the limit but keeping it sensible the capa flash box, bigger injectors and delete the centre muffler and well on your way to 300rwkws and 12's for under 1200$! for peace of mind and if my experience showed anything, replace those oil pump gears before attempting to go for power.

I read somewhere they are offering a secondary oil cooler as an option on the FG, why wouldnt they just make it a standard item if it needs it!?.

the f6's actually come with an oil cooler as standard.

that's not the problem though, its just like hi-po gtr's, the oil pump gears just can't cope and like them many an aftermarket part is made to combat just this problem.

nice vid on the basics.

For the extra cost of going from SS to a SSV isn't worth it IMHO. I was going to go the SSV but the $10k difference was enough to mod a SS to how ever I wanted.
The SS is a great car, as much as people want to bag it out as its aussie etc, but still puts a smile on my face when I turn the key or plant it in 2nd. A nice cam sounds tough, or a GEN TT kit gives you a heap of power and nice driveability. Be aware that VE mods are pretty pricey atm being a relatively newish car, so a lot of shops will charge a shit load for zorsts, suspension etc. Just remember to shop around.

The XR6T's are the new VL turbo! They are a great car for mon-fri, wack some boost and you have a weekend warrior. There's a heaps of stories on how cheap they are to mod, and seriously are the Bang for your Buck car.
VE 6ltr = nice cruiser taxi
XR6T = powerhouse taxi

yeah i know, that's what I can't work out. I've priced an SS to SSV spec, minus the 19" wheels and bigger screen for the stereo and its around 4k cheaper!!

Where'd you buy yours? And what did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

I bought mine from north city holden (id advise NEVER to buy from there with the problems I had) but on road with all the paint protect/rust proof/tint crap was $51000 drive away. I've had paccies 1 3/4" headers, cats, twin xforce 3" fitted (approx $4300), tune ($880), CAI ($550 when they 1st came out) and lowered springs ($550). Best time I have gotten is 13.3 @ 108mph 2.3 60'.....capable of 12's with some more experience...but as you can see, it was pricey getting there! I think the cost of VE parts have come down a bit, but yeah if your after a family car with awsome times and a budget....don't go the VE.
Can't beat the sound of a nice 8 tho
