3G iPhone cannot currently be unlocked other than by the official means.

The old 2G one can of course be unlocked.

Jailbreaking lets you run unsigned code on the phone. Prior to the appstore there were no other applications other than the defaults. A jailbroken phone could now suddenly play games etc etc etc.

Appstore will have a lot of good applications that meet Apple's standards which will be fine for a lot of 'general' users. Some of us want applications that won't meet Apple's standards though

Actually it took the hacking team less than a day to unlock the new 3g iphone

My brother just got a new 3g white one from the USA (ebay) unlocked and running perfectly

Interesting that the dev team is still trying to get an unlock for the 3G phone then...

Bakks, updates are few and far between. If the phone is hacked don't upgrade to the newest firmware until others have tested it. i.e. I have a hacked 1.1.4 phone, I can't just upgrade straight to 2.0.

Do you mean for OS X on your computer Bakks? I'd say you should be safe as it's really iTunes & iPhoto that do 90% of the interaction and my 'pwned' iPhone is working fine in the latest iTunes.

Don't quote me if anything goes pear shaped though
