v1800 is already at my new house so no changing my mind there...

you get what you pay for, so i dont mind spending the extra if i 'hear' it necessary. I'd probably listen to both.
Im auditioning this week, i will report back on what my ears think

Good idea mate - make sure you pick out some good CDs to audition them with! Not just CDs that you know well, but also ones that really push the boundaries of how a speaker is meant to perform.

One of my favourites: Keb Mo's Just Like You, first track (That's Not Love). His vocals should be crystal clear and the bass should be strong and punchy, but clean and musical.

Any other recommended CDs for these duties?

I'd sit through Transformers - when they are in Iraq and the helicopter comes in - you'll know how good it is or isnt during that fight scene.

Alpine's Highway One still a favourite of mine. For me the true test of a speaker is how well female vocals are reproduced such as Whitney Houston (The Bodygaurd style).

BUT don't buy speakers for a 5.1/7.1 set-up just because they pump out high quality tunes. You won't want to listen to music in 5.1

Oh and take your amp to the store and use that to test the speakers with since that's what you'll be using. And not sure if that model you have has it but take along your YPAO mic and set it up properly with that.

Anyone listened to speakers from these guys before? (shop is in Leederville) Apologies for the pseudo-hijack of the thread...
