Oh righto I'm with ya now. the centre surrounds are really what are rears in a 5.1 system. If you're not too fussed about having the best sounding system I wouldn't bother going 7.1. Just because the amp has 7 channels doesn't mean you have to use them all You could then run the spare 2 channels to outdoor speakers in the backyard/shed.

Remember it's easier to make a hamburger out of a cow than vice-versa

JBL's are probably going to be more than I paid - retail was $4500

ES 100's are $2000 (90's) were slightly less)

http://www.ehifi.com.au/jblhome/ESSeries/es100.aspx

this package has the 150 instead of the 250 sub and 2 less bookshelves:

I'd shop around and if you find someone who'll do a great special then you may get closer to your budget as I said. Only read good reviews on these.

if you bi amp them they would have 250w

the jamo speakers are a orsm speaker tode. i sold a set to my uncle and he loves them. they sounded brillant and they only had 90w running through them.

With all the processing and more power that the 1800 has they would sound mint

Tim

BOSE = Buy Other Sound Equipment, Better Sound through marketing :P

LSK have unbeatable value over the big names, and they use actual high quality drivers like vifa, and peerless.

http://www.theloudspeakerkit.com/

They do sell their kits pre assembled, under the name 'Wapplington'. Office in leederville you can check it out - You wont be getting better value for money with big name brands which are almost always a total rip off for inferior quality.

With regards to amplification....

Wattage is not a factor in sound quality, its current and damping factor. In fact without a known sensitivity its totally irrelevant. The problem with 7 channel amps is that you have all 7 speakers sharing the same current and that results in high distortion and floppy speaker control.

I could show you a 12watt amp that would destroy any 100+w x 7 style of receiver in every way and cost less to buy 4 of them :P In the last 3 years amplifier technology has come a very very long way, with nuforce, ice, and tripath technologies.
