Firstly, it is spelt 'kayak'...
Try Finn Kayaks in Oconnor, it has everything you need. I think it it is on Jones St from memory. That would be a good place to start for good plastic skis. Once you have gotten your experience and strength up after a couple of years, then you could think about getting a lighter carbon fibre or fibreglass ski.

Default Spirit Paddle Sports

Spirit is well worth a look at too for everything from waveskis to cross trainers etc, 20 Sundercombe St Osborne Park. We have three of them (2 cross trainers and 1 racing ski) and have been really happy with the quality and durabilty

Cheers
Rob

You really need to do a bit more research into what sort of paddling you want to do mate! Otherwise you'll roll up to whichever shop you go to, and wont know where to start!

^^^+1 Do you want a sea kayak or a K1?
For Sea or playboats (shorties) go to Mainpeak Cott
If it is for fishing you can't go past a Hobie.
Plus how much are your parents willing to spend???? good yaks don't come cheap unless you buy in bulk....

I have two skis. One Spirit sit on surf ski like the livesavers use. It is a relatively fast boat at the expense of some stability but once you get a few hours on it you become more at ease with it. The only problem with it is its weight 22kg appx. The other is an old Burton fibreglass ski which is about 4kg lighter and a much faster boat but it is even more unstable. My wife has a carbon fibre K1 at about 15kg and it is more stable than both ski's and nearly as fast but I prefer the ski's. Look in Sat and Sun papers in the boating section as Finn and Spirit and some other outlets have free try out days. Like others have said you need to decide what type of paddling you want to do.
Dont waste your money and standard begginer paddle get yourself a propeller or wing as they are much more efficient. I recently bought two from South Africa from Kynsa paddles. They are carbon fibre, not top of the line but very good and at $159.00 each delivered were good value IMO.
