I have an Avanti Giro, at the moment i am stuck with riding on a trainer because i am recovering from a snapped achilles tendon. Hopefully in the next few months i will be back riding the streets.
Go see Leigh Clarke at Fleet Cycles in town. His brother is a member on here as well. AJ Last edited by AJ79WA; 14-01-2009 at 07:32 PM. |

40-50 aint that hard to do on a proper bike setup.... i got plently of friends including a chic who is semi pro and she averages 45-50 no problem.. (and yes she's in SA over the next couple of weeks) my bro is wafer thin compared to me and in a 3month effort (starting from scratch never riden b4) started averaging 38-40....
pigs bike sounds the goods mate go and have a look at it, thumbs up! |

Dude i'm not into picking interweb fights but no one is averaging 45-50. The record average speed for a time trial in the Tour de France is about 54km/hr- and that was done over only 24kms with a nice tail wind. If you can average 30 you are doing ok, most races average around 40, if anyone can average anywhere near 40 on a training ride then they should be in the Tour.
Cracks me up people spinning crap to their unsuspecting mates about how fast they ride.

I completely agree with BAS, I was going to post initially getting up to speeds of 70 km/h "easy", that is professional spec. I too am not trying to pick a fight with anyone in particular but some of these claims are a bit ridiculous tbh lol.

I have a merida, forgot the model it is. Cost me about $1500 about a year ago including cleats and diff pedals, great bit of gear and can hold my weight (90kgs). I can average between 30-35 according to my mates computer but not sure how correct it would be? Either way i just do it for fitness, not to smash world records :P

put the crack pipe down.
i hope you all know what averages are. My personal preference for a road bike would be an avanti or giant. They make great bikes for resonable amount of cash. 1000-1500 dollars will land you a semi carbon bike with a 105 groupset and that will keep you going for a long time to come! |
