getting back to the subject...
I have ridden many bikes over the years, and can agree that if you are going for value for money, Giant would almost be your best bet. If you have any problems with your bike later down the line (for instance a cracked frame) it is better to go with a bigger company like Avanti or Giant that has a proper customer support setup.
Bikes are one of those things that you get what you pay for. The more money you fork out, the lighter and stronger frame you will get with longer lasting components.

At the moment I ride a Specialized Tarmac road bike, A custom made Time Trial bike, and an Avanti Hammer mountain bike for going off road.

As for easily going 70km/h... that only happens for me when I am going down the hills around Kalamunda or Mundaring. That will only happen when the descent is a couple of k's long, and after I have averaged 15-20kmh getting up there!!!

I agree with DELIBER8 post. The most important part is to get the right size bike for you and adjusted to you build. I would watch the Quokka for a few weeks, I have own chrome molly frames, carbon fibre(Look) and a alloy Klein Quantum which is my favourite with Dura-Ace running gear. I found once the bike was set up for my build the quality running gear makes the differences.

Digging up an old thread - seeing LA TOUR is over, has any one gone out and bought new gear?? I'm after a pair of pedal and shoes - whats the best place for them. I have looked on the net at this Bicycles | Bikes | Mountain Bikes | Road Bikes | MTB Bikes | Bike Parts | Bike Frames | Road Frames | MTB Frames bike shop in the UK. Prices look good but not sure about buying this sort of thing with out speaking to someone 1st.

Have always had a good experince with wiggle in the UK.

Bikes | Mountain Bikes | Road Bikes & Cycling Apparel | Wiggle

And +1 here for having a proper bike fit. Best time and money you can spend. Just makes riding it feel so "right" and efficient.

Torpedo7 Bike shop. Mountain bikes, Road bikes, Bike Parts & Accessories - SOOO much win on there well at least for Mountain Bikers and a fair selection of road going gear, Also have a mate who works at TBE too if you see anything you like there I know that their prices don't compare or anything but worth a look

I have bought stuff from wiggle in the uk (4 business days from order to delivery!!), torpedo7 and cellbikes. The latter 2 sometimes have ripper deals (on varying items), you can subscribe to their email news letters etc. when i got my shoes and pedals from wiggle, they were about half price compared to local shops. the torpedo7 and cellbikes stuff from over east often take ages to arrive (week or 2).

I have a diamond back flat bar roadbike, carbon forks, tiagra gear. out of curiosity, how much quicker/more efficient would you expect a road bike with 105 or ultegra to be?

I bought a fizik seat and integrated light (amongst other stuff) from wiggle and they were awesome. Would definitely use again.
