Hasn't there been just as much accidents and deaths on the road recently, as apposed to a few years ago before the new laws.
The only difference is the gumbyment LOOKS like it is doing something while it rakes in fine money.

Thats not the point mate, the percentages of something happening goes up dramaticly if someone is not doing the right thing and being a dick eg. so
called hooning.

Speed is always a major factor in most deaths on our roads not just in
high profile media covered accidents.

See I just dont buy in to "Speed is always a major factor in most deaths" at all.
The cause of an accident is never speed alone and speed in itself is not dangerous...its just when its used at the wrong time or someone inexperienced is travelling at speed.

Its also very easy for 'speed' to be put down as a cause of death...I.E. If someone crashes a car at 100KMH and dies but the post mortem reveals they would have survived at 80KMH cause of death can be put down as 'speed' but when they crashed they were still on or within the speed limit....see now I'm just flicted 'cos the gumbyment tell's us that your safe if you dont speed

Heck you can go as far as saying that if you knocked someone over doing 5kmh and they hit their head on the ground and died the cause of death could be speed because if you were not movning at all the accident would never have happened.

Cynical? Me? Nooooo

I disagree. The stats on speed related accidents does not take into consideration the speed limit. Crash at 80kmh on a country road (110kmh section) and that can be put down as speeding.

The problems lie with idiots sitting at 80-90kmh in the right hand lane of the freeway, with that smug look on their face because they are not speeding. The blocked up traffic then has to make dodgy moves to get past them.

Is sitting at 110kmh in the right hand lane of a freeway hooning? No. Why is it that every other country in the world has higher speed limits on highways, everyone sticks "left" unless overtaking (assuming driving on the left of course ) and so forth.

What we have is a nanny state where if you are 1kmh over the stupidly slow speed limit set, my god you are seen to be worse than a rapist.

Ok guys speed may or may not be a factor in most road deaths but
it still stands as i said before that the percentages of something
happening goes up dramaticly if someone is not doing the right thing
and being a dick and driving like a fuck stick.

Hooning, in its true definition, is a problem and can lead to accidents.

The problem is TT/ACA have shown images of modified cars and led the dumb public to the assumption that a modified car is instantly a hoon. A hoon can drive any vehicle and cause problems.

I see more hoons in Excels and stocko commodores than in modifed vehicles.

If the mindset of a 'hoon' is changed in the media (i.e. not having stories of hoons robbing houses and stealing cars... They are theives not hoons) and crack down on shit house driving, things would be a lot better.

Government would be better off running ads telling people not to tailgate and safe following distances than the usual bs of 'speed kills'.

Aren't we lucky to have a Gumbyment that has thought of everything?
