its our right to prevent the death of people. killing is fucked anyways. dying is the easy way out. lock him up.

so in the end, i am against capital punishment.

I think it's meant to be a deterrent as well as a punishment. Capital punishment sends out very strong warnings to would-be offenders, and what better cure than prevention?

In any case, whether by bullet or by the gallows, death is supposed to be instantaneous. The rope length is calculated according to the person's body weight.

I must have missed that part of international diplomacy 101.

Please explain to me why we have any place telling these people how to run their country, especially when the argument is sparked by a single person who's been convicted of trafficing narcotics?

Just as a side note, lest anyone thinks the pendulum only swings to one side, there were a couple of Singaporeans that were recently caught and convicted of drug smuggling overseas, currently sitting on death row (I think in Vietnam or Cambodia, can't remember). The point is, the Singaporean media isn't kicking up a storm over it, neither is the Government. Fact remains that they have been caught, tried and found guilty of their crime in a fair court of law. Any appeals have been through the right channels, and it's just too bad if they are unsuccessful.

Thats a rediculously stupid answer, congrats. Not only are you bringing more misery to the world with the drugs you are moving, but your also trying to make a few widows while your at it.

yeah, generally the knot is on the side of the head, so their is a decent fall and your neck snaps, not the old style hanging where you fell half a meter and did the 'dance' while you asphixiated.

To the people saying the death penalty is wrong, fair call. But why isnt the australian govt lobying the singa's govt to stop *all* hangings, what makes this one persons life more important than any other? was he a brain surgeon or missionary worker? Its a bit hypocritical that his life is more important because he holds an australian passport.
