I recently bought a VW R32, was also looking at Audi S3s and TTs. There are very few around and that was after checking for 3 or 4 months. The ones that did pop up from time to time were well over-priced compared to over East. I ended up getting my R32 from Melbourne. So I'd consider this if I were you. Didn't have to fly over, and it was a pretty straight forward process.

As teejay said, cheap flight over. But anyway, if you're buying something newish (07/08), it's still going to be under warranty. Get the REVS check done, phone up the dealership ask about service history and make sure you get a good seller. i.e both my 350z and R32 were bought from middle aged women, who were very helpful and professional throughout. No guarantee obviously, but reduces your chances of getting something that's been drilled. Also when buying in Victoria the seller has to have a road worthy check done at their expense. It can also depend on the car you're buying. If you're buying a low km 07 Audi A4 it's very unlikely it's been driven hard. I guess the only real major risk is if it's been written off or stolen, but the REVS check takes care of that. Personally if it was an older car, out of warranty, with high kms I'd not bother buying interstate, especially blind. But otherwise I'd always consider it. You can save yourself a lot of $$.

Both cars were bought privately. Transport on both occasions was Autotrans. Pretty efficent and cheap ($1000 vic/nsw - wa). No finance, paid cash. Inspection was by Nissan for the 350z and VW plus independant mechanic for R32. The r32 also had an extended warranty to 2014.

if you want something like an Audi you may well struggle to find anything in WA. Over a 3 month period, I only found 1 R32 for sale. And that was highish kms, and way too expensive.

Audi Centre Perth does the same as Auto Classic. Any late model ones in good nick they try and pick up and put inflated values on them. Then one of two things will happen. 1) Someone like you goes in there looking for a good secondhand one and they say "well it is only a small step up again to get into a new one" or 2) you go looking at a new one and they say "look how strong the resale value is ones that have been well looked after. Depreciation is not really an issue"

Definately look east where there is more than one dealer.
