Default HDMI help!?

we are having some trouble with the HDMI cables from the ps3 to the plasma.

we actually have two plasmas and two ps3's
we were having trouble with one hdmi cable, so i went out and brought another, and not a cheap one.

50% of the time when we start up the ps3, the samsung plasma displays 'mode not supported' - this happens with most blue ray dvd's and also a burned normal dvd, and some times just trying to get the PlayStation screen up - but some times the blue ray does work!

the celestil plasma displays nothing.

its so strange. we can get sound because the optical sound cable connects straight into the amp. and some times there is no problem. tried swapping the cords, tried reversing the cord, tried swapping the playstations.

its just strange cos we are getting a 50/50 strike rate. sometimes it works. sometimes it doesn't. and one of the cords is brand new!

any one had the same problem before?

any ideas?

any feed back would be greatly appreciated

Hey mate,

What Samsung do you have? I have a 50" Series 4 Plasma and am using HDMI for the Xbox 360, just some semi-cheapo HDMI cable also.

I've just hooked the 360 up via HDMI-1 and as soon as the Xbox turns on HDMI-1 becomes available and when i turn to it i get a signal.

Sound is also delivered across HDMI - I have optical going from the TV to my sound system, so it's like XBOX <--> HDMI <--> TV <--> Optical <--> Sound System.

Weird that it's a intermittant problem though.

Are there any Advanced Display settings on the PS3 to force it into HDMI mode?

I don't think it's the cable. You need to reset the PS3 to display in the mode of the other TV.

Press and hold the power/eject button for 5 seconds when it's hooked up to TV number 2. This will set it back to factory. Then it will pick up the settings it needs from the TV.

we got it set up;
ps3 <-->hdmi <-->tv & ps3 <--> optical <-->stereo
i thought this may be copnfusing it, so i took out the optical, no joy

if we turn it all on. the display says 'mode not supported' but then as soon as we chuck on a game, the display comes back. when we try to exit to the ps menu, no joy must be a setting like you suggest. gonna try putting it into a normal tv and change the setting, let ya knopw how we get on

Are you running a Full 1080 HD TV? If not, make sure your PS3 is NOT set to run in this mode or you will have probs.

I reakon resolution might be wrong or to high, and when ur going to a game its changing resolution, do the default like the guy said and then set it up slowly
in setting change the display mode until you get a image that is steady

Check to see if the screen handles 1080I or 1080p. Celestial = china spec and may not support 1080p, hence no image.

ok........
so ps3 (in the lounge) cant display the menu in the lounge,
so we plug it into the screen in bed1 and it works fine. we change the rez settings to hdmi then take it back to the lounge. no joy. game works/menu wont.
yes tv will pick up 1080. also it has done before on the same ps.

tried the re-set (hold eject button for 5-10sec) and no joy.

i'll try the ps from bed 1 on the lounge screen.

Again check wheter it will accept BOTH 1080 Interlaced and 1080 progressive, 1 & 2 gen plasmas don't usually like 1080P.

You should be able to set the PS3 to 1080i via the menu..... as they do the following resolutions: 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p

Post up the samsungs model please and I'll find the native resolution for it.
