I dont know about older versions, but Mac OS X uses TCP/IP, so will work on your existing network. Wireless networking is even supported too.

As far as I know....just share the folder on the PC. As long as the Mac and PC is on the same IP range the Mac will see the PC. The menu on the left will show all the Shared computer on the IP. Just select the PC you want and it'll show the shared folder

I've actually have two routers with two different IP ranges but a static route between them. The Mac can ping the PC no worries but setting up a share on the MAC is what i'm after

System Preference -> Sharing -> Select File Sharing -> Add a folder you want to share.
I usually click on Options and Tick all the check boxes. FTP, AFP, SMB and click your account. You should now be able to see the MAC in Network Places and access the folder with FULL access for Read only depending on what you selected. |

Even if i could do the equivalent of the \\192.168.0.2\c$ on the MAC and mount it for instance were the above IP is the PCs IP address whilst the MAC is sitting on the 192.168.1.3

If you press Command K on your MAC it will bring up the connect to server box. (Make sure you on Finder first)
if you type in that box smb://192.168.0.2 and press connect does it allow you to connect to the shared folder on the Windows PC. The IP address needs to be the address of the Windows PC. |
