I just returned from 2.5 weeks in Vietnam. Flew Air Asia back. Not too bad (better than jet star) although annoying that seats didn't go back from KL to Perth.

Forget the Malaysia exchange rate of 3 to $1AU....we got between 14,000-15,000 viet dong for each $1AU. Alcohol is expensive in Malaysia but cheap in Vietnam. 4000 dong for bia hoi (daily beer) or 10,000+ for bottles (10,000 for Saigon lager good beer, 15-20,000 for Tiger amoung many others), 30,000 for 375 bottle of Hanoi Vodka or Rhum.

Lots of good beach areas to visit. HCMC (Saigon) was good, bit of a party town, Hanoi was boring. Nha TRang nice but very commercial beach town, would prefer Hoi An and Cua Dua beach as less people.

Great place though, better than expected.

Yeah pretty easy to get around. Trains cheap, well organised (but not 5 star!!), vietnam airlines planes really good within vietnam, taxis cheap, otherwise within towns/cities grab a motorbike or cyclo.

Just watch as taxi/motorbike/cyclo will all try to scam you. Ask/set the price first.

I would now rather Vietnam over Malaysia to relax as the beaches are nicer (nha trang to danang - incl china beach) and alcohol is heaps cheaper. Shopping just as good if not better. Similar flight time from KL to HoChiMinh as Kota Kinabalu.

We'll probably go back in the mid-term future.

There is a realy good waterpark/theme park in KL with the worlds biggest man made surf beach... defo worth a look haunted house there is good too...
also theres a theme park in the top of one of the shopping mals, theres a pretty good roller coaster with a couple of good fast loops.
