I had a few disagreements on their policy and what I was there to do. Not to mention that with the residential full timers having an axe to grind with us allround contractors who 'were there to steal their jobs' yet spent every second at work on an MT4400 truck. Basically a very bad experience all in all. Might have been better if everyone there was on the same roster and conditions.

Hehe, was never any shortage of them at Cataby.

My mate was the operator on the dredge on night shift when they had the bright idea to run it backwards after they bogged it. Managed to unscrew the bucket wheels until they jammed on the shrouds. Took two banks of oxy and round the clock crews just to get it free. wish I had pics of that.

Here's what happens to the main slew gear of a Manitowoc 2250 when it falls off a low loader - a bit more costly than chipping teeth off second in your 5 speed.

Off a 450 tonne crawler like this

Forgot to add my funnies in here, spent a month at FMG's cloudbreak with brierty at the beginning of the year

On the day i turned up, there was a dozer on its side in a sump, the 4th dozer they'd turtled in 2 MONTHS, and the op of tghe latest effort, decided tghat while it was sinking and filling with water, he'd go in and save his ipod.

They had a track come off an rh170 digger

The following day, the same digger was bogged solid in some slop, the stupid bit was that the digger op on night shift, got it stuck, got it out, then went back into the same spot he'd just got unstuck from, and suprise suprise, got it stuck again, it took a full day of digging with a pc1250 and a dozer chained up to it to pull it out

Just before i arrived, a 777f ended up with the cab facing the sky, after the op didn't lock it into first on a steep ramp, it kicked back, lifted the front wheels and came to a stop on the back wheels and the rear edge of the tray, took them 2 hours to get the operator out.

Plus there was numerous near misses with trucks rolling stop signs and almost flatening cars..

Tell me about it. I don't claim to be great but the more "Experienced Operators" I see the more comfortable I get with the fact I really can do the job better than most.

Lost count of how many wannabee legends I have run into over the years.
