Interest Rates
I'm interested what people are doing with their mortgage interest rates. It's obvious they aren't going to get any lower so have most of you already fixed yours, thinking about fixing them or just staying on the variable rate?
There was an article in The West a few days ago that predicted rates would rise by at least half a percent each time instead of the quarter percent increases we were more fond of. What are your views? |

You can fix your rates, but im sure banks have already factored a rise into their fixed interest rates....its a gamble really.

The article that I think is most likely to be correct that I have read lately is predicting a .25% rise around May 2010.
You will be a fair way into your fixed period ( and be paying a fair premium until then ) if you fix now. Can't see the point unless you fix for a very long period, get a great rate and know you will not make additional payments. Otherwise just stash the extra in now and you will be in front anyway.

I thought I would be smart and fixed mine at a low 8.5% for 3 years a year ago. I am pissed now!
It will cost me $16000 to get out of the loan. Fuckers |

the problem with fixing rates as well, is that in more cases than not, most banks will not allow a redraw facility on fixed loans.. wheras variable will.

^^^^ Variable always wins!! ^^^^ When rates fall you maintain your high repayments and you are way better off!!
