Don't mention his wife is a good root!!!

Don't worry to much about the public speaking. You will have had a couple of drinks by the time you have to stand up so will be a little more relaxed than you think you will be.

Don't get shit faced till you have done the speech, try to imagine you are talking to one of your folks rather than a room full of strangers. If you would be embarrassed to have it said about you in front of your folks about you don't go near it.

There is lots of guides on the net..

I suggest a couple of stories from the years you have been together and also one about him and his missus.. Keep em reasonably PG.

Then just change the guides up to suit

Take a house brick with you... then say "Earlier today, the groom was quite nervous. Just before coming to the church I urged him to make sure he had gone to the toilet coz we didn't want to be busting during the ceremony. After he went, I went, and in the toilet I found THIS".

At my brother's wedding, the best man refused to give a speech, because that's the sort of best man that he was.

The MC told me I would have to do it. (I wasn't expecting to do one)
I was quite drunk by then, so I had to do a Billy Connolly and just make stuff up.

The crowd loved my speech (apparently) so I'd say go for no preparation and maximum inebriation..

I think the most important thing to do is to NOT stress out beforehand.

Wedding Guests are a pretty forgiving bunch, the atmosphere is pretty positive and most people are going to be in a jovial state of mind.

No one is going to be overly critical of you at a wedding.

Just have a bit of a general think about what you want to say, and just speak naturally, 'from the heart' (to use an old cliche) The groom is obviously a good mate of yours, so I'm sure that if you relax, the words will come easily.

I have MC'd about 50 weddings in the past so I'll give you a big tip....don't try to be funny unless you can guarentee a laugh! Make sure you write down exactly what you want to say and practice it a couple of times before hand. Just be yourself Damo

Use Steve Buscemi's speech as a good guide - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBB6p...eature=related
