Diesel worked on the palms at my place if you have time to let it die. Just pour it over the whole thing and it will die and rot.

If you're in for more of an adventure do the above said plus light her up!!

diesel + ammonia phosphate.
I've seen that combo shift a fair few tons of iron ore before

I would get onto it with the chainsaw to remove as much as possible, hopefully you can remove enough to allow the fence to be replaced, then there are some herbicides you can get to kill off the remaining root-ball so it doesn't grow back.

Agreed with Saint_23....used to do this for a living.....best way is chop it as low as poss with a chainsaw then ring your local stump grinder to come and stump it.....job done.

Or just chop it up like cheese with a chainsaw to remove the offending part of the tree, then dig it out slowly, chopping the roots away...most palm trees don't have a very deep root system.

Make sure you hire the chainsaw, it'll fuck the blade but that's what hire gear is for.

It shouldn't stuff the blade Pim....that is unless you touch sand. Palm tree flesh is very moist, it should cut through it like butter with a decent chainsaw but you will need to clean the chainsaw out properly when you finish as the acids in the juice will eat through the cast ali real quick if left for a few days.

As all the other blokes have said - Dig around the stump as best you can, then hose it down to get rid of the sand (to save your chainsaw blade).

then cut and remove the stump in small sections.

How wide is the access to there? Maybe a mini digger in there to dig around the roots. They can get through pedestrian gates. Would probably take the best part of a day to dig the bastard out. You will end up with a reasonable large root ball. My guess is that it will be too large to get out through a gate and you will end up having to chop is down the middle to fit it through.
