Portable 3G wireless question.
I just bought a 3G wireless router thingy that I plug into a USB port on my little 10" laptop, I'd never seen or used one before & I'm in China so don't know if I got ripped off or not, the sim card in it lasts for either 360 hours or 6 months, no download limit, just the hours you use, it cost me about $140ish all up with the router and if I use the 360 hours before the 6 months is up I can buy a top up card for $80ish that lasts another 360 hours, seems to be a pretty quick system.........so did I get a good deal or not??????
Also as I have the router can I buy a different sim card and use the router anywhere or will it be limited to China only.

Thats a pretty good deal! 360 hours is 15 days of 24/7 activity, if you disconnect when your not using it it should last you for quite a while.
In Aus, you would pay $149 (i think there on sale for 99 now) for the USB dongle. Then you would have to buy credit, which buy's data rather than time. You normally go through the data pretty quickly, and if not it expires in 3 months anyway. It depends on the networks the router supports, but there's a high chance you could just replace the sim card and use it elsewhere.

Give me the details of the router, plan and provider and I'll get
the rellies in china to have a look into it for you. Being a westerner you would have paid more than a local would but that's just a given.

I got it from a friend of one of the girls in the office, got him down from 950 to 850 and he did all the setting up for me, it's ChinaNet and seems to be made by ZTE, and I think can only use it in Chongqing but not 100% sure ?????????
I know home internet is a hell of a lot cheaper but I won't have my own place for about a month, then I'll be back in Aus in 6 months for the summer holidays here so it should work out fine, not much I can do about it now anyway because it's paid for and used lol. Thx

My telstra usb modem is ZTE powered.
The modem however is unlocked and running a virgin sim, which was bought for 2 days and gave me 30 days/300mb - which is fine for my uses.
