We pay more than adsl2 prices!

iprimus have a adsl2 plan with 130GB for $50 at the moment. down here $50 would be lucky to get you 10gb on 1.5Mb. Its effing shit. and telstra, with there super awesome "99% of the population covered" bullshit cant even provide adsl1 to me, because they wont upgrade the exchange with more ports.

its probably because they pay telstra part of that to cover the usage of equipment etc with ADSL 1. ADSL2 means their own DSLAMS.

In regards to gigabit gear dont know. but your choices are limited with a lappy, most lappies have onboard LAN so you would have to go USB or Serial/PCI

move closer to the exchange

you've got a 100megabit connection and 100megabyte network card, 8 bits to a byte so your network card is already 8x faster than the fastest speed your internet connection can support. Short of changing network car brands to the same chipset as the modem or looking online for another brand of modem you've likely got the most out of it you can without spending bulk coin. All forms of internet connection have overheads, so getting near on 80% of the max theoretical speed from yours is doing well.

+1 be very happy. There would be more people getting less than 80% of max than people getting more.
