heh IT jobs galore, also you can get that sum working locally here in Perth.

Keep in mind that minesite jobs are about 11.5 hrs a day, however do minus for crib time and smoko.

Best thing i thing about minesite work would be mess hall and not having to cook

If i were starting out in the workforce, i most likely would have gone to the mines. Very tempting... also not too bad for unskilled labour too IMHO.

Like Mat says FIFO is big$$$ but the shifts and hours can be a killa.

$65-80k sounds great, but work the hourly rate back and you may find your only earning $20-$25 per hour.....it's the number of hours that you do that makes the bucks.

I prefer the lifestyle in town though.

I hope you guys are saving & investing your $$ wisely, cause when the economy shits itself, the unskilled labour market will suffer 1st - don't go pissin it up against the wall.

Also, ask yourself - what are you going to do for a living when you're 40-65?

Enjoy it, but don't get too carried away with it all.

W_ARGH_X Are you in the mining dept at telfer (eg. eng/geo/survery) or an operator down the mine?

I suspect most here aren't un-skilled, rather they are just giving input from the industry as that was what the thread called for. But a good warning given the cyclic nature of mining. Still, current cycle is good for another 3-5 years imho.

Hopefully be retired long before 65!

Gold $800Au..............................

Truckies start on $90000 and drillers on $100000..... so yeah, approx $9000-$10000 then. Sorry should have made that clear.
That was going on the people we speak to who work at west angelies etc

Theres always council jobs lol. Nah, a majority of people i know that work in the mines are doing tafe and uni courses. See it as studying and getting paid good money to do it......kinda

I dont have the number but Newcrest Mining is located at the Hyatt in Perth. If you give them a call im sure they can direct you to where you want to go.

FIFO is a pretty fucked lifestyle tho... Always tired, stuffed up sleep patterns, your week off consists of 'trying' to catch up with everyone, paying bills and running out of time to do stuff. But, it is the easist way to earn good money.

All my mates went to uni, and as Stace said... all owe big HECS bills, work at maccas and always study to end up earning $30000pa.......... most mining jobs start at $65000 and go upto $130000pa and thats just to be operators (drive trucks)

I wanna drive tonka trucks so i can buy me a house

Thanks for all the info guys, Ive had plenty of jobs with fucked hours, that doesnt bother me. I just think its time to earn some real bucks so i can buy some land and build a 10 car garage with a hoist or 4.
