I went past an in-car Poliscan setup last night - it was in the back of a white VW van with the huge rear window. It was on the crest of a hill so warning was somewhat reduced (corner of Hutton and Albert St, between the Freeway and Main St). The V1 provided enough warning (approx 160m) but surprisingly, the Whistler Pro 78SE matched it, again.

I'd say that the hill and the fact that the camera was at a greater angle to the road were the difference between this video and the one above on Riverside Drive. It seemed that the camera sits on an angle in the car (and the car sits on an angle to the road) so the laser beam certainly doesn't shoot directly down the road.

Slight angle. It was most noticeable that the van wasn't quite parallel to the road when turning left onto the street immediately after.

Does anyone know how far away are these units calculating your speed?

What I'm getting at is are they calculating your speed at say 100-200m away but only takes your picture when close to the van?

Just trying to confirm how much 'warning' we are getting.

I read something from internet, its 15-75m depend on which power mode its on.

The specifications of the camera state that it's maximum range is 75m but this is probably when it begins to calculate your speed when set up to shoot directly down a straight, open road. To be absolutely safe, you'd want to be at the posted speed limit at the 75m mark (on a freeway or highway) but I'd say that the real world range is less than half of that (single or two lane roads).
