at this stage of the game I would say painting would be your best bet,
But getting the builder to paint it would be better of course..

not sure on what luck you would have with it.

seems like a massive waste to paint acratex, we use it every day on 1.2m steel round colums and the finish is brilliant (3 coats), might be the actuall product that was used and the way in which it was applied.

Find out exact product and get a representative of the manufacturer to come out and see if they are happy about the way their product is being used.

This is a good idea, not sure on Acratex etc, have been a builder for 15 years and never had a problem with render/sand finish and then paint it, in saying that there are some great products out there, they just have to be applied correctly.

When done right it shouldn't be patchy though!

As most have said, it will be either Acratex or Unitex.......normally it should not be patchy but this can occur if the product has not been applied correctly (similar to painting a panel of a car in metallic paint, the wrong method can lead to the appearance of a different colour in certain light)........getting the rep out to check it would my plan of attack if the builders bluffing you off, look for the used containers that the product came in on the rubbish pile to confirm what has been used and the bucket should have some contact details on it also.

Suggestions to paint over it, to me, are unacceptable as you have actually paid a premium to have this product applied as it is generally more expensive than just rendering sand finish and painting. It also is designed to last a lot longer than a painted rendered wall.

So the builder isn't indicating anything ?

Surely there is something you can do to take it further yeah ?

I would do what was mentioned earlier and get the rep from the company who supply's the stuff to come look at it.
