I am all for driving lights! Every motorbike should have its lights come on the moment you turn the key- no question.

As for cars, well I think having some driving lights on is a good idea. NOT brighter-than-the-sun LED lights which are all about attracting attention, but more subtle lights which make that black car against the dull-coloured trees in your rear-view mirror stand out a little.. so you consciously know its there.

Looking homosexual or not is one thing, but they are easily as bright and destracting as driving lights. Just another example of rules for one and different rules for others.

HSV most likely did it as the Clubsport R8 is sold under the vaukual (spelling ) badge in europe and would also need to comply with there rules so maybe its just a case of them getting it done before there forced into it

This is actually quite a good article on the topic.

If you know your regulations and have installed the correct lights you can kindly inform Mr Law when questioned.

I'm all for DRL's if used properly.

Im guessing its darker most of the time in Europe then in Aus so they probably need them, I usually put my lights on when its darkish or raining with the amount of retards on the road dont want someone pulling out in front of me.

These are called day light running lamps and are required by law (IN some countries) as pointed by bob.

I don't see any problems with them.. in fact i think anything that aids in making highway driving safer is plus!

If you find them too bright.. i suggest invest bit of money in good sun glasses.

Wonder if one of us put a round cluster of LED park lights in the lower part of our bumpers if they would be more legal than driving lights?

Being from Belgium, I know that during summer we had daylight till at least ten PM, in winter it's pretty much the same as the winter here.
During fall, the thick clouds and rain make it hard to travel on the road.
So that point on new rules in Europe could be right, I am not up to date with the roadrules in Europe.
In drivingschool we always drove with lights on, on a rainy day, I personally think it's a lot safer.
Motorbikes have the light switched on as soon as they turn the key in the ignition.

It seems it is from an enviromental point of view why it is LED, they consume less power (source;Wikipedia)

In a Subaru you can cover a great distance in a short period of time or a short distance great period of time.
The journey is more important than the destination.

Regardless of what looks good or not...

Some of you need to actually read up on the ADR's for front facing lights and understand why your fog lights are illegal to use in conjunction with headlights.

Calling them day time driving lights or some other bullshit excuse does not change why they are illegal to use in conjunction with headlights. (Hint: its nearly the same as driving with high beams on all the time)
