Default Allocating Disc Space

Oh hai guyz, so I could use a little help and as always P-Diddy is my first port of call. I'm running out of room on my laptop, and can't really afford to buy a new one until the end of the year, so I've been checking out the disc space on my current one, and I came across 50 gb of unallocated disc space. My question is am I able to allocate that to the C: drive to extend the volume of the drive? I'm using Win7, if that makes it any easier/more complicated. Any help would be appreciated.

My Acer came with an HD split into C and D, half each. Looks like yours may have lost D?

What size is the hard drive? If it's a 120 meg that would seem to be about right, and you should be able to allocate and use that space. It's not the sum of the two existing partitions so I doubt it's a corrupted partition table showing phantom space.

^^ WHS (except 120GB :P ). You wont be able to extend the size of C unless you use special software (eg Partition Magic or the like). I dont believe Win 7 has built in tools for that (someone will correct me if i am wrong). But you can create a new partition and create a D drive. Right click the unallocated space and create a new partition. Its pretty self explanatory, and hard to muck up. Google it, there will be an online tutorial and explanation on the different partition types.

Plus, then a big folder usually is your My Documents, once you have done the above, right click properties on my documents and change the path to D:\My Documents

It will prompt you to move all data, say yes.

You may free up a couple of gig on your C:\

Hrm.. I just stumbled across a Microsoft website for allocating unused space. Thanks for the input guys, but I followed what it told me to do, and now that space is part of the C: drive.

As always, cheers for the quick response.

What everyone said ^^^ except you can use Gparted in order to resize the partition rather than having to move it all over to a new one.

http://gparted.sourceforge.net/

Its free and absolutely legit (I use it about twice a week)

You'll need a blank cd

The wheel had not been invented then. 16k was awesome.... soooo much
room in there... echo echo echo.

Sorry for the slow reply. My 300/75 baud acoustic coupled modem had
a problem negotiating with viatel.
