Default FM transmitter advice

I have been looking for an FM transmitter that will go a few hundred
meters... OK, let me clarify that : It only needs to go about 50 meters
but must still have a strong signal at this distance.

I want to be able to transmit from a PC (via an RCA lead) on FM and
pick it up on various radios around the house, including the car radio
when I am doing mods etc.

I know the bunky little FM transmitters for ipods just don't go far
enough, so I have been looking at 1.2W models on ebay that allow
you to adjust the power in 0.1W increments.

These ebay units look like the way to go, but I want to know if
anyone else has any experience or advice to give. or if such a thing
can be sourced locally at a sane price.

Let me know your thoughts

Apparently, FM transmitters are legal if they're less than 1mW. And making up a right antenna should give you a good range without ACMA trying to do the above to you.

Alberts Myaree has 12v fm mods, used in roof screen installs....had one in the show room we were picking it up in my mates workshop down the road. Vision FFM3 i believe is the part number.

I know that some of the CB radios transmit up to 7W, but am guessing
that the FM range is more limited as you say.

Bored at work, so did some googling.

Normal Radio FM (88 to 108 MHz) transmit power is 10 μW

page 8 of: http://www.comlaw.gov.au/ComLaw/Legi...assLic2000.pdf

CB radio can have a lot stronger transmit power, because as the name would suggest, it is Citizen Band, although im pretty sure there are still some sort of limits in place.

10 microwatt = 0.00001 watt

Thats pretty crappy. Good for about 2 meters... just like the ipod
transmitter things for you car. Stupid regulations

realistically though if you got one of those ebay units, and adjusted it to have just enough power for what you need, I doubt youd have acma kicking your door in.

As long as you didnt interfere with any radio stations, or some little old lady tuned in to hear "fuck you, and, fuck her too" blasting over her radio
