A mobile phone right next to one should wreck any signal being transmitted.
They emit a fair bit of EMI.

I can't see this happening (although I know they will try).
Seems like they would be able to track your every move, which is a huge breach of privacy as far as I am concerned.
I'm keen on the microwave idea. Unless they can prove its been tampered with, we can't be held responsible for whether the device works correctly or not.

Why do you need this chip to ID your car when you have number plate, and police with computer systems connected to their network? Sounds like a big waste of money.

Are they saying that they are going to be putting additional devices up all over the place so you're potentially being electronically tagged every 5 minutes when driving in the CBD for example .. (Read: Big Brother)

Even then, that's more so for tolls. You don't need a special tag on your car for point to point speed camera's to get you.
