That is for tolls - also in place all over Europe. Not to say that it couldn't be used for speeding fines etc. But for WA, not applicable.

If it were to be introduced, it would be blatant Revenue Raising, as they have just committed 30 odd million to new speed cameras which according to the state government should assist in keeping us safe. Why would they need to add to this....

Hopefully the civil liberties groups will deter govt from implementing this....

I've always wondered when they set the quickest legal time for a length of multi-lane twisty road, do they change lanes so as to hit all the apexes and drive the shortest possible distance or do they sit in the one lane to do the calculation?

Wonder how they plan to deal with the rather massive theft problem of rego stickers from motorcycles. Not like they are secure in a little plastic holder with one screw attaching it.

Of course they don't change lanes and hit apexes... You aren't travelling at the limit of traction.

Im assuming this will use some kind of RFID chip right? Im sure someone will be able to crack whatever protocol they use between the chip and the readers so that you can send out false information about your speed AND still keep the chip there for when the cops try to scan you with a handheld scanner...

I'm 100% sure this is all hearsay as there is no media releases on this at all...

Other than a comment on this forum about it being mentioned in Perth Street Car magazine.

How about exposing the sticker to a big magnet, or an electro magnet?

If the Gubment was serious at reducing road fatalities, here are a few things they should look at that seem to escape media imagination:

1. Make it easier and cheaper for young inexperienced drivers to get in newer/safer cars.

2. Compulsory and bi-annual safety/roadworthy inspections on older cars - 10 years or more - similar to MOT inspections in the UK. Get unsafe and unmaintained cars off the road.

3. Re-assess ALL road users at least once every 5 years,be it theory or practical, regardless of age.

4. Make it HARDER to gain a drivers licence, and increase the amount of time drivers must spend with a qualified instructor.

5. Introduce compulsory driver training that will prepare new drivers for night driving, bad weather, defensive driving, emergency braking etc.

6. Have stricter penalties on repeat traffic and drink driving offenders

7. Have a greater police presence on the road, they are no good to anyone hiding behind bushes on the highway with radar guns.

All of these suggestions WILL save lives, but all will cost money to implement. I guess none could be seen as revenue raisers, and perhaps why these suggestions haven't been looked at in the past.

Speed never killed anyone - its the inability to Stop that gets you...

But think of all the money they could make with a system like this?

In any case whatever is transmitting the signal from your car will need to be powered by something so you could always just install a switch to power it when it needs to be powered eg. if you get pulled over or something and turn it off for the rest of the time.

Maybe if they implement these new cards (which i do not like the sound of) we can get rid of the hideous number plates they make us put on our car :P

Chips (like the ones used in dog tagging) don't need an external power source
